THEATRE ARTS WORKSHOPS ~ WINTER 2020
SIX SATURDAYS: JANUARY 18, 25, FEBRUARY 1,8, 15, 22 (SNOW DAY 2/29)
Heroes & Villains
Grades 3 - 5 9:30AM – 10:30AM
We pit the good vs. the evil in this interactive, drama-filled class where each student will create their own character of a Hero or a Villain. A short story will be established that shows off each student’s unique powers and capabilities. Characters are devised through interactive, ensemble building and solo theatre activities.
Fee: $130 (non-residents $150) Class size limited to 25
5 SATURDAYS - JAN 25, FEB 1,8, 15, 22 (SNOW DAY 2/29)
Grades K -2 11AM – 12:00PM
This interactive and energy filled class will incorporate many theater games and activities introducing young performers to the ideas of ensemble, pantomime, imagination, and characters. We will utilize various stories throughout the class to build our skills!
Fee: $100 (non-residents $130) Class size limited to 25
INSTRUCTOR: Scott Bartelson is currently the Management Associate at Hartford Stage whose responsibilities span three departments: Management, Education and Artistic. He assists the executive leadership of the organization (Managing & Artistic Directors), serves as the board liaison to over 80 board members, leads education advocacy efforts, facilitates senior staff communication, and leads the young professional’s advisory board, Stage One. Over the summer, he serves as a teaching artist for the organization, leading the pre-school program. He also has adapted the scripts for the popular "Breakdancing Shakespeare" teen performance over the past four seasons and taught Adult Shakespeare classes. Prior to Hartford Stage, Scott was the Producing Associate & Teaching Artist for outdoor theatre company, Shakespeare on the Sound in Norwalk and worked for several years in the General Management office at Town Square Productions in New York City. He has taught at a variety of organizations including Second Stage, MCC Youth Theatre Company, TADA!, and the Trumbull Youth Association. He is a Board Member for the CT Chapter of the Educational Theatre Association’s International Thespian Society. He holds a B.S. in Educational Theatre from NYU, Steinhardt.
There must be a minimum of 15 students to hold these workshops. No refunds unless the workshop is cancelled.
